 File
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Dd.03.87

Scope and Contents

(1) Debates in the house of commons, 1680, on the exclusion bill; (2) ‘M. T. Ciceronis synonyma’, ‘Ex Cod. Lat. MS. n.138. Arundel’ (lexicon), copied in a hand perhaps as late as the eighteenth century; (3) account of proceedings at the Council at Whitehall, 6 July 1616, concerning Commendams, with a list of those present; (4) ‘Expositio sequentiarum secundum usum Sarum’, fifteenth century; (5) law tract, ‘Comendum [sic] case, xxiiio Oct. 1616’, or ‘Notes of Baron Bromley’s arguments in the exchequer chamber’, in the case of Coult and Glover v. Bishop of Litchfield and Coventry; (6) extracts from charters granted to the city of London from the time of King William I to King Edward IV, apparently made for the preparation of a new charter; (7) ‘Wraynham’s case: or a vindication of the lord chancellor Bacon’, apparently a transcript from an original manuscript published in London in 1725, corrected in some places; (8) address, possibly given before the lords of the exchequer, possibly by the recorder Sir H. Montague, in the name of the City of London, on presenting a Lord Mayor, with lacunae; (9) ‘Notes on the king’s speech in the higher house of parliamt, 19 February 1623’, followed by a speech of the lord keeper; (10) ‘Notes of his ma’ties speech in the higher house of parliamt’, 29 May 1624, followed by what appear to be the king’s answers to each bill read by the clerk of parliament; (11) notes on the speech of Sir Ranulph Crew, sworn Chief Justice 27 January 1624; (12) the king’s speech at the opening of parliament, 1625, with many erasures and corrections, giving it the appearance of being a rough draft of that printed in the Lords’ journals; (13) ‘Sir John Ellyott’s speech’, ascribed in print to Sir Robert Cotton; (14) a decree in the case of the advowson of North Cadbury, involving Baron Ewens and Emmanuel College; (15) copy of a commission granted to Lord Hais (Hayes?) and Sir Thomas Edmonds to treat of and conclude a marriage between Prince Charles and ‘Christian 2 daughter of Fraunce’, c. 1616; (16) a report of the Duke of Buckingham’s negotiations in Spain, imperfect, but including the principal details of the proceedings in parliament to 1 March [1623] and giving the memorial presented by both Houses and the answer returned by the king on 21 March 1623; (17) copy of a speech to ‘My Lords’ by one who makes abject submission to the king; (18) Sir Walter Raleigh’s last speech; (19) ‘Noctes templariæ. A briefe chronicle of the dark raigne of the bright prince of burning love’, with mottoes for sergeant’s rings on a waste leaf; (20)-(21) removed from the volume.
