Scope and Contents

1. ff. 1–52. 'The Arguemente of Sir Edward Littleton, Knight, of the Inner Temple, made in the Exchequer Chamber, pro Rege.' [Against Hampden in the case of Ship-money.] Imperfect at the end.
2. ff. 56–73. Rough notes for an Argument against the defendant in the case of Ship-money. They are probably Sir Edw. Littleton's.
3. ff. 74–93. 'Opusculum de Origine Monasterii de Fontibus.'
4. ff. 96–121. Rough draught of Sir Edward Littleton's Argument in the Court of King's Bench, upon a Habeas Corpus to try the validity of John Hampden's commitment by the Lords of the Council for resisting the King's command for an adjournment of the House of Commons. 5 Charles I.
5. ff. 122–154. 'Extracts out of the records, wherein may be collected by what meanes the Kings of England have and may raise moneyes.' [By Sir Robert Cotton.]
6. ff. 155–180. Leicester's Common-Wealth. It is much decayed, and imperfect, beginning at p. 26 of the ed. of 1641, and ending at p. 162.
7. ff. 181–194. 'Mr Littletons Copyes of the Arguments in Banco Regis in the Habeas Corpus for the prisoners, touching the loanes.' 3 Charles I. The arguments are those of Bramston, Noy, Selden, Calthrop, and Sir Rob. Heath, Attorney-General; with the judgment of the Court pronounced by Chief Justice Sir Nich. Hide.
8. ff. 200–204. 'Le Graund Case de Habeas Corpus in Banco Regis, 22 Novembris, 3 Regis Caroli I.' A summary of the arguments in the case, which are given more at length in no. 7.
9. ff. 210–216. Of the XVth century. Letters Patent relating to the Conventions between Richard II. and Henry IV. of England, and William, Duke of Guelders and Count of Zutphen: with the Instructions given to Sir William Sturmy, Mr John Kyngton, LL.B., and Robert Waterton, Domicellus, the ambassadors of Henry IV. to the Duke of Guelders, relating to the pension due to the latter and his homage to Henry, etc. 1387–1401.
