Scope and Contents

(1) A high commission for causes ecclesiastical issued in 1634; the copy of the docket appended to it, signed by William Noye (the attorney general) shows that it gave ‘Divers powers for punishing such crimes as were not comprehended in anie other commission; such as blasphemy, notorious drunkenness, refractorie scismatiques, derogation from the function of the ministry, misbehavior between married persons’; (2) rules, orders and writs made and issued by and out of the court of wards and liveries, in the 18th year of the reign of King Charles I, signed by Lord Cottington; (3) royal letters concerning and extending certain franchises and liberties conferred upon the college of the virgin Mary at Eton by King Henry VI, ‘Convenit cum recordo per Johem Claydon’, 4 and 5 Phil. and Mariæ or 6 Edw. VI; (4) ‘To the kings most excellent ma’tie. The humble petition of Robert Goodwyn and Henry Broad, gent’, praying him to erect an office for the surveying and receiving of monies arising out of the fines and amercements of parties and their pledges and actions; according to the manuscript the petition was referred to the consideration of the lord keeper and Lord Cottington; (5) ‘The submissive answer of doctor Chambers to a letter presented by the grave and learned judges unto the right honble the lord keeper and lord treasurer in answer to your ma’ties letters to them directed’.
