General

PJ. This additional note was written by John Falconer. St Marys Church Madras. Built between 1678-1680, St Marys is the oldest English church in India. The steeple was added in 1795. The building contains the remarkable monument erected by the East India Co. to the missionary Schwartz, showing him dying on his bed surrounded by friends, with an angel appearing in the clouds.
