Legal reports, seventeenth century
Scope and Contents
(1) Dyer’s reports, abridged and arranged alphabetically according to matters, a table of which occupies the first two written leaves. Each case has a reference to the folio on which it is found in the printed reports. Written in a hand of the early part of the seventeenth century. Between the table and the body of the reports is an unconnected leaf, containing some cases of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, headed ‘Perpetuities’, in a contemporary hand; (2) Escheat cases in the reigns of King Henry IV to King Henry VIII, in a hand similar to that of the ‘Perpetuities’, together with ‘Les poyntes del serjantes case le quel fuit argue termino Mich. 1595’; (3) ‘A brevyate of the argument of Mr Plowden & Mr Popham, in the case of Sr George Calverley, in the cort of wards, for Chitwood’s lands. And a full copy of the decre passed thereupon in that cort’, in Trinity term, 23 Elizabeth I, written in a fresh hand.
