Annual diocesan calendars/directories provide a wealth of condensed information regarding the Diocese of Ely. The original Ely Diocesan Calendar first published in 1870 combined Parker's Church Almanack (for general information on the Anglican Church) with Diocesan specific lists of clergy, benefices and new appointments, a brief history and timeline of the Diocese, reports on the Ely Theological College and Ely Cathedral Grammar School, duties of Diocesan committees, changes to laws affecting the Diocese and relations with other religious organisations including the Society of the Promotion of Christian Knowledge. The content of this series remains relatively consistent through the decades. Many of the volumes the constitute this series contain annotations and updates by Diocesan officials, usually in regard to the appointment and retirement of clergy.
