103 x 143 mm. A head and shoulders cabinet portrait of Sir Hugh Low with a note in Swettenhams hand on the reverse reading: Sir Hugh Low in 1884, wearing the K.C.M.G. (Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George) Star which was given to him by the people of Perak. Sir Hugh Low (1824-1905), after travelling to the east in search of orchids, was appointed Inspector of Labuan in 1848. He was appointed British Resident in Perak from 1877-1889.
