278 x 184 mm. A group photograph taken outside the Astana Nagara (Sultans Palace) immediately following the presentation of the G.C.V.O. (Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order) to the Sultan of Perak on Thursday September 25, 1913. Figures in the group definitely identified are: Idris Mersid-el Aazam Shah, G.C.M.G. (Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George), G.C.V.O, Sultan of Perak (10 from left); Sir Arthur Henderson YOUNG (1854-1938); Governor of the Straits Settlements and High Commissioner fo the Federated Malay States 1911-1919 (9 from left); Lady Evelyn YOUNG; (11 from left); Sir Edward Lewis BROCKMAN (1865-1943); Chief Secretary, F.M.S. 1911-1920; (12 from left); Reginald George WATSON (1862-1926); British Resident Perak 1912-1919 (13 from left). The other figures in the front row have not been individually identified, but almost certainly include: Major General Theodore Edward STEPHENSON (1856-1928); Commanding troops in Straits Settlements 1910-1914; Arthur Henry LEMON (1864-1933); British Resident, Negri [i.e. Negeri] Sembilan 1912-1919; Grace LEMON; wife of above; Edmund BURNSIDE (1863-); acting British Resident, Selangor 1913-1914; Mrs BURNSIDE; wife of above; Edward John BREWSTER (1861-1931); British Resident, Pahang 1911-1916; Mrs BREWSTER; wife of above; Sir Lionel Mabbott WOODEWARD (1864-1925); Judicial Commisisoner 1906-1914; E.B. SKINNER; Member of the Federal Council and later Chairman of the Council of Rubber Growers' Association (probably the figure second from left); Mrs E.B. SKINNER; wife of above.
