Scope and Contents

Essay topics:

Class A

1 You have been elected leader of your country. What three pieces of legislation would you want to introduce? Be specific rather than general and give arguments to support your choices.
2 The dark side of the moon.
3 From the dawn of time, animals have helped to shape both human society and human imagination. Write an essay or a story exploring this theme.
4 What is the free market? Is it the formula for human success and happiness?
5 Everything I need is here right now.

Class B

1 Have you ever told or kept a secret? What happened and what were the consequences?
2 That's not fair!
3 My dream and where it would take me.
4 We all laughed.
5 'Nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.' Discuss this statement by Oscar Wilde.

Class C

1 'When I was your age...' What changes, for better or worse, have been experienced by your grandparents in the last fifty years?
2 What happens when a long-lost family member returns.
3 'Forgive and forget'. What are the difficulties in doing this?
4 Everyday food and festival food. In your country, how do these differ?
5 If your life story was to be portrayed in a film, play or novel, write the final scene.

Class D

1 Write an adventure set under water or on the shore.
2 What is your most valuable possession? Why?
3 Write a poem or play about an imaginary family of insects.
4 Where would you really like to live? Why?
5 Describe a local wedding.
