COMEX, 1963 - 1966
Scope and Contents
The Commonwealth Expedition (Comex) was conceived of as a means of encouraging young people in Britain and elsewhere in the Commonwealth to embrace its ideals through cultural exchange. Young people from Britain would travel to India, and in the words of its Action Committee, ‘build a bridge between London and Delhi over which the younger generation of the Commonwealth may safely pass for years to come.’ In 1965, the pioneering party travelled in specially adapted coaches from Dover, reaching Delhi weeks later, while offering concerts and cultural performances along the way. Nine expeditions were made over a 15 year period. This section includes archives relating to the organisation of the movement and its first expedition.
