Scope and Contents

Comparison of Luard’s contents list with the records, now loose papers taken out of their guard book, reveals many inaccuracies. The following list is extensively corrected. Contents:
1(1). A transcript of the Graces relating to the Library and Press from 1646 to 1705 by Librarian Hadderton;
1(2). Copy of the order of the Stationers’ Company for one copy of every book printed by them to be delivered to the Library, 28 May 1674;
2. Office copy of the Act of 6 George I to enable any corporation within the University or any other persons to convey any messuages and ground to the University for enlarging the Library, 1720, with articles of agreement between the University and King’s College pursuant to this, 1786;
3. Articles of agreement between the University and Charles Humfrey for shelves, 1 Nov. 1787, with quotation and drawings;
4. Case for opinion concerning copyright with opinions of Lens and Littledale, 11 Jan. 1821;
5. Conditions of contract for the new University Library;
6. Contract of Messrs. Rigby for the new Library for £23,945 with specifications, 25 Aug. 1837;
7. Proposed elevation of the new front by Wilkins;
7a-b. Plans by Rickman;
8. Drawings for the interior of the Library, lecture rooms etc. by Wilkins;
9. Plans for Library lecture rooms etc. by Cockerell;
10. Specifications and contract of Messrs. Rigby for bookcases etc., 16 July 1840;
11. Two Library bonds paid off in 1849 and cancelled;
11a. Letter of Messrs. Fielder and Johnson, solicitors, 22 Duke Street, London, to the Chancellor, Masters and Scholars, stating that a bond for £600 dated 2 May 1840 lent by Julian Robinson (Jesus, MA 1843) has been assigned to the Rev. Frederick Shum, 14 June 1843;
11b. Same to same respecting a bond of same amount, same date, assigned to Richard Ramsay Fielder (Jesus BA 1848, MA 1851), 26 Aug. 1844;
13. Specification of works and contract of Messrs. Jackson and Shaw for the enlargement of the Library, 8 Mar. 1864;
14(1). Letter of Mr Fuller to Vice-Chancellor Cartmell respecting the Lambeth Library, 26 Oct. 1867;
14(2). Case drawn up by Mr Fuller for Counsel’s opinion with subject;
14(3). Letter of Vice-Chancellor Cartmell to the Archbishop of Canterbury respecting the Library, 2 Nov. 1867;
14(4). Answer of the Archbishop saying that he intends to keep the Library at his own expense, 4 Nov. 1867;
[16. Schedule of prices produced by Jackson and Shaw, 1864;
17. Articles of agreement between Jackson and Shaw, 3 Mar. 1864;
18. Bond in £2000 of Jackson and Shaw to the University, 8 Mar. 1864].
