Scope and Contents

Letters to and concerning Withers.

1. Unsigned letter, apparently addressed to Withers while staying with John Brown, Ram Yard, Cambridge, incorporating a poem, “Hail! Brother of the gentle craft…”; Cambridge, 27 May 1856.

2. Letter from William Cumming (intended for publication): incomplete, four folios numbered 4–7; Cambridge, 17 January 1860. Copy addressed to Withers and postmarked 19 January 1860.

3. Letter from Stephen Perry to ‘Dear Friend’ [Withers?], Needham Market, ‘12mo’[?] 1863, with a poem, ‘The village mansion’, on the same sheet.

4. Three letters from Isa Craig (i.e. Isabella Craig Knox, 1831–1903), at least one of them to W. Austin, [1866–1867], with envelope.
