Scope and Contents
Green folder of c 54 letters written to Margaret Maskelyne, marked 'Astronomer's daughter 1809-1813. All to Margaret'. Correspondents include her aunt, Lady Clive, and various family members (a family tree is included). The letters mainly concern domestic and family matters, but also include a description of Paris and the Louvre (1814; letter 19) and remarks on contemporary politics. Many letters are preceded in the file by a note on content.

Biographical / Historical
Margaret Maskelyne (1785-1858) was the daughter of Nevil Maskelyne. She lived at the Observatory until her father's death in 1811, developed a keen interest in astronomy, and assisted him with his observations. In 1819 she married Anthony Mervyn Story (1791-1879), who formally changed the family name to Story-Maskelyne in 1845.
