Scope and Contents

Contents of a file so titled. Requests for information, photographs, posters and literature on astronomy and space, the sun, moon, planets, telescopes, observatories, and Time, etc. Many are from children doing school projects, teachers seeking educational resources or amateur astronomers.

The letters include requests for information on subjects such as earthshine, eclipses, artificial satellites, the distances to the nearest galaxies, the Isaac Newton Telescope, asteroids, comets and meteorites, astronomical spectroscopy, the function of the Pageos satellite, black holes, the time of moonrise, and advice on careers in astronomy, etc.

There are also letters describing observed astronomical phenomena, some submissions of personal theories for evaluation (sometimes unintelligible), and a small number of letters on non-astronomical subjects (requesting information on air and water pollution or seismology).

Consecutive numbering is the archivist’s.
