Scope and Contents

A copy of Porter's script for 'The Night Sky in November' on Jupiter in Taurus; the transit of Mercury, 14 November 1953, and the next transit of Venus in 2004; Jeremiah Horrocks's prediction of the first observed transit of Venus, 1639; the observatory of Preston in Lancashire; the 1769 transit of Venus and James Cook; Legentil and the transits of 1761 and 1769; parallax measurements during a transit used to determine the scale of the solar system; other objects transiting the Sun; Leverrier's 'Transit of Vulcan'; and the Sun photographed on 173 days in a six-month period during 1953 at Herstmonceux.
