Correspondence regarding primary mirror tests, including a copy of a letter from Redman and S.C.B. Gascoigne to W.A. Goodsell, 20 December 1971, reporting on their visit to Sir Howard Grubb, Parsons and Co. Ltd; a copy of a letter from Redman to Gascoigne, 28 December 1971, enclosing Redman's notes on his visit to the company on 16-17 December; a letter from J.D. Pope, 27 December 1971, regarding his visit to the company with Gascoigne on 23 December, and concerning the support system tests and the usefulness of data for the Northern Hemisphere Observatory telescope; a list of proposed support system tests, dated 28 December; Goodsell's correspondence with Redman and D.S. Brown, including notes sent by Brown on 'Residual surface errors (December '71) and possibility of further improvement'; copies of letters from W.E. James to Goodsell, including a progress report for December 1971, and from P.R. Gillingham to I. Munro, Sir Howard Grubb, Parsons and Co. Ltd, on primary mirror figuring; a letter from Gascoigne, 19 January 1972, enclosing a report on his visit to Sir Howard Grubb, Parsons and Co. Ltd on 13-17 and 21-22 December, and copies of correspondence of Gascoigne and J.F. Hosie concerning the competence of W.E. James and C.G. Wynne's statement that he should have been consulted in placing the contract, and of Gascoigne's correspondence with Wynne on formulating a test programme and on the draft specifications of the correctors.
