Correspondence of R.L. Ford with Redman, V.C. Reddish, M.H. Jeffery, A.N. Argue and H.C. Minnett regarding automatic guiding, drive and control systems. There are references to Ford's visit to the University of Hawaii; the comments of D.W. Dewhirst's on Ford's report; the effect of atmospheric refraction on telescope guidings; the effect of optical distortions on the accuracy of offsetting when using an autoguider; field rotation; possible firms to be engaged for a design study; the speed for guiding; Ford's 'A Note on the Drive System' for the Anglo-Australian Telescope; friction drive and encoder errors; design studies for the drive system; maintenance; and figures showing traces for turbine gears. The correspondence includes a handwritten letter from A.N. Argue regarding the issue of guide stars, on which Ford and Redman do not agree.
