Scope and Contents
A letter from H. Spencer Jones to Redman, 5 April 1954, informing him that the Paris Academy has adopted and forwarded to the French government a similar resolution to that signed at Leiden respecting a new southern observatory. There are handwritten notes by Redman on the reverse of the letter, including text from the French resolution found in 'Comptes Rendus'. There is also a copy of a letter from Spencer Jones to D.C. Martin, 4 May 1954, quoting a letter from Dr P. Bourgeois, Director of the Royal Observatory, Belgium, informing him that the Council of Belgian Ministers had agreed to the establishment of an European Southern Observatory in South Africa.
