Scope and Contents

A copy of a letter from D.C. Martin to members of the British National Committee for Astronomy, 29 December 1953, asking them for their views on an attached memorandum by Redman on the proposed Southern Hemisphere Observatory before he attends a meeting in Leiden on 25 January. There are copies of the replies received from J. Jackson; W.H. McCrea, Royal Holloway College; T.G. Cowling, Leeds University; H. Spencer Jones; D.H. Sadler, H.M. Nautical Almanac Office; H.H. Plaskett, Oxford University Observatory; A.F. Alexander; W.H. Steavenson; W.M. Smart; G. Merton, Oxford University; E. Finlay-Freundlich, St Andrews University; and Miss M.G. Adam, Oxford University; with a copy of a letter from Redman to Martin, 11 January 1954, commenting on the replies.
