Scope and Contents
A copy of a letter D.C. Martin, Assistant Secretary, Royal Society, to Redman, 16 December 1953, informing him that he had been nominated to attend as an observer at a meeting of representatives from Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden to discuss the proposed international observatory in the southern hemisphere. There is also a copy of a letter from J.H. Oort, Leiden Observatory, to H. Spencer Jones, 9 December 1953, inviting him to the meeting and briefing him on his correspondence with the South African government.
