Scope and Contents

Personal correspondence of Sir Richard Woolley regarding invitations, awards, lectures, committees, dinners and other subjects. There is correspondence with magazines concerning articles and books; with tradesmen, banks and insurance companies; with various societies, universities, schools, observatories and other institutions; and with individuals. The correspondents include J.B. Alexander; Dr Atkinson; the Astronomical Society of the Pacific; Allhallows School; Sir William Boreman's Foundation; Professor Bondi; Count Aldo Castellani; O.J. Eggen, Palomar Observatory; Dr Schmidt; Professor Blaauw; Dr Hunter; F. Hoyle; the Clockmakers' Company; the Cambridge University Astronomical Society; Granada Television; Sir A. Herbert; and local societies, including Herstmonceux Football Club. There is also correspondence concerning the memorial service for Sir H. Spencer Jones and the death of Professor Stratton, and a copy of Dr B.K. Blount's article in the 'New Scientist', Vol. 9, on 'The future of scientific documentation'.
