Scope and Contents
Correspondence with various overseas observatories, S-Z, including the following items:
Saudi Arabia: correspondence regarding the setting up of a large telescope in Riyadh, and minutes and correspondence concerning a special committee to advice Riyadh University.
South America: correspondence with the National Observatory of Argentina.
Spain: correspondence regarding the Seville Observatory and its lease by the Royal Greenwich Observatory from the Jesuit Brothers.
Switzerland: correspondence with Professor Becker of Geneva concerned mainly with instrumentation.
United States: Papers regarding the Mount Wilson and Palomar Observatories concerned mostly with the observing time on the large telescopes, but also including correspondence on instrumentation for large telescopes. There is also correspondence with other U.S. observatories regarding observing time allocations, visits, staff changes, graduate and other courses, and symposia and conferences.
United Kingdom: correspondence with the General Board on the future requirements of the various departments of the University of Cambridge; correspondence on interview boards for fifty posts at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh; and correspondence with various small observatories, concerned mainly with courses and seminars in astronomy and physics.
U.S.S.R.: papers on the change of address of the Academy of Sciences.
Turkey: correspondence concerned mainly with Turkish students coming to the United Kingdom and Europe.
