Correspondence and papers regarding staffing issues, including the following items:

Correspondence of R. Atkinson, Chief Assistant, Royal Greenwich Observatory, with I.N. Sneddon of Glasgow University, H. Spencer Jones and C. Jowsey, 1948-1949, with drafts of Atkinson's confidential letters to Dr Dyson and Professor Dee on the appointment of a second chief assistant.

R. Atkinson's drafts of confidential letters to D.H. Sadler and H. Spencer Jones regarding Sadler's refusal to accept Atkinson's jurisdiction over the Nautical Almanac Office as deputy to Spencer Jones, 1949.

Correspondence between R. Atkinson and H. Spencer Jones regarding staff, duties and allowances, 1949-1954, including new recruits, observing allowances, a 'standard duty', Spencer Jones' circular on astronomical staff and training, and Atkinson's views on astrophysical and astrometric programmes. There is also a letter from H.M. Smith, Abinger, on transit circle duty.

Undated draft of a letter to [ ] Simpson on the establishment of A.C.S. Wescott and D.W. Evans.

Undated obituary notice for P.H. Cowell by J.G. Bullocke, Royal Naval College, Greenwich, with a pencilled note by R. Atkinson stating that it was 'regarded as too frank to print'.
