Correspondence with the College Women's Association of Japan, 1993 - 1995
Scope and Contents
1) Exchange of letters between Doreen Simmons and the College Women’s Association of Japan (CWAJ), 22 March 1993 and 20 April 1993, concerning a talk [on sumo] given by DS at a CWAJ lunch in March 1993. CWAJ note ‘We look forward to more of your presentation as a Sumo commentator in the Japanese media’. 2 page pdf;
2) Two letters, 13 December 1994 and 17 January 1995, relating to a search for information and for a possible speaker for the CWAJ 1996 lecture series, to speak on the Shinto background of sumo. DS agrees to help find a suitable speaker but warns against the risk of “going against Japanese ‘political correctness’ [as] many of the most noticeable Shinto aspects of modern sumo are, arguably, modern additions”. 2 page pdf.
