'Fishermen & Kings: The Photography of Olive Edis', 2016
Scope and Contents
A collection of Olive Edis photographs was purchased by Cromer Museum and Norfolk Museums Service in 2008. This publication was produced by Norfolk Musems Service to accompany an exhibition at Norwich Castle and as part of the Olive Edis Project undertaken by Norfolk Museums Service.
The volume contains many examples of Olive Edis’ work as a photographer. See page 56 for a photograph of Dame Louisa Innes Lumsden taken in the 1920s and Adelaide Anderson taken in 1923; and page 58 for a photograph of Emily Davies [co-founder of Girton College] taken in 1914. It also includes many photographs of Olive Edis herself, some being self-portraits. See pages 14-21 for a biography of Olive Edis.
[Olive Edis (1876-1955) was a photographer whose work included family photographs, society photographs and photographs of famous sitters, including royalty. She ran a studio in Sheringham, Norfolk, with her sister Katharine where they specialised in portraits of North Norfolk fishermen. Olive also served as a war artist in World War I.]
