'Girtonica, or Pearls from Oysterland', 1906 - 1924
Scope and Contents
Volumes edited by the Mocking Turtle and the Dormouse [in the handwriting of Miss Frances Cave]. In an extract from a letter from Miss Frances Cave to Helen McMorran she explains the background to Girtonica:
'Girtonica was Dr Mason's [believed to be Dora Mason, Girton 1900] idea, and she and I were the editors (After Dr Mason left College, M E Seaton was a co-editor for a while). And wrote most of it; but others helped, including Dr Brock and Prof Tarrant. Dame Bertha was Chief Critic, but did not write much. I don't like to think of Girtonica as being in the archives - While a friend has it, it's still partly alive; in the archives it's as dead as mutton', 2 August 1944. Miss Cave used to read extracts from Girtonica, then topical, to members of her coffee parties, and she wrote the names of those who heard them in pencil on the left hand of the page.
