'A World of Women', 2007
Scope and Contents
A biographical portrait of Constance Shorrock [the author's grandmother] at Girton 1872-1875, 'set against a carefully researched background of the attitudes, ideas and mores of her time'. The memoir was submitted as a degree dissertation in English and Art at the West Sussex Institute of Higher Education in 1990.
Very little is known about Constance Shorrock so the dissertation is based largely on the accounts of Constance Maynard, her Girton contemporary. It is noted in the Conclusion that an unspecified amount of the work is fictional - there is also a list of Fictional Characters provided at the end alongside the Biographical Index.
