Chiefly addressed from 12 Bulstrode Gardens, Cambridge to Kate at her bedsit in Greenwich, London SE3. Regular subject matter includes culinary matters, visits from the Pitter family, and the building and furnishing of a garden room extension at 12 Bulstrode Gardens. Specific matters are mentioned as follows: 3 May 1963 - C P Snow's 'antidote lecture'; 10 and 17 December 1963 - Robin Leavis' interview at Clare College, Cambridge and the offer to him of an exhibition; 1 May 1964 - QD will not be offered a post at Newnham College after all and wonders about getting a post at the University Library to make ends meet; 24 July 1964 - addressed to Kate in Vienna; 22 September 1965 - addressed from Helsinki, where QD is giving lectures and seminars; 8 June 1966 - addressed from York where F R Leavis is a visiting Professor and has been offered the headship of 'College Six'; 9 August 1966 - QD has spent a day at the British Museum studying the manuscript of Silas Marner - 'no one seems to have examined it critically before me & I found some surprises I can use in the Penguin edition' [Q D Leavis wrote an introduction to the Penguin edition of 1967]; 11 January 1968 - QD is busy writing lectures for Harvard & Cornell, and F R Leavis is to give lectures and classes in York for a term; 4 October 1968 - F R Leavis has opened the Cheltenham Literary Festival 'with great success'.
