Scope and Contents
Cambridge general. A sample only has been kept, including programmes for music and drama at numerous colleges including Emmanuel, Trinity, Westcott House, Clare, Queens’, Jesus, King’s, Sidney Sussex, Magdalene, Selwyn, St John’s, Corpus Christi and Pembroke [all Pembroke items, 1952-1955, retained: Christine Kelsey was a member of the Pembroke Chapel Choir. She also sang in a Magdalene College madrigal group in May Week 1950]. Also Cambridge clubs and societies including: CUMS and CUMC [Cambridge University Music Society and Musical Club]; Cambridge Arts Theatre, including Cambridge Footlights programmes; ADC Theatre; Great St Mary’s Church; CU Madrigal Society; CU Mummers. Also 1951 Festival of Britain events held in Cambridge; 1952 Cambridge Summer Festival; Cambridge Guildhall; and non-college balls at the University Arms and the Guildhall. There are also items of sporting interest deriving from Cambridge men’s rowing, cricket, rugby (Varsity match 1952) and judo. On the scientific and academic side the file contains the following: CU Women’s Research Club list of meetings 1954-55 and a ticket for the annual dinner 6 December 1953; ticket for a Kapitza Club meeting at Caius College 11 October 1955 on ‘Nuclear Energy Production’; menu for Cavendish Laboratory farewell dinner to Sir Lawrence and Lady Bragg 18 December 1953; a visit to the works of the Cambridge Instrument Co 1954; and CU Physics Society term card Michaelmas 1952 (including Helen Megaw, 6 November, on ‘Mapping a Crystal’). Student Christian movements and mission work include Sanctae Trinitas Confraternitas; CU Student Christian Movement; the Society of St Francis in Cambridge; and a report of The Cambridge Hopping Mission in Kent.
