‘Cardiff Lecture - Murder and Mystery: The Craft of the Detective Story’: text of a lecture delivered on 23 February 1995, in which P D James deals briefly with the history of the genre before discussing how she copes with the problem of combining a genuine mystery with the novel of social realism. [The Cardiff Lecture was established in 1992 as a way of raising awareness of Cardiff's 'reputation as a thriving literary centre', sponsored by Whitbread and Random House.]
