‘Who Killed Sir Richley Luker? An Entertainment in Three Acts Devised by PD James (Any resemblance to the detective novels of the Golden Age is purely intentional)', 2001
Scope and Contents
Two copies of a 55 page typescript first draft. A post-it note attached to one copy reads ‘to be kept in Archive. Not to be published. Performed for Arvon Foundation, 3 March 2002 at the Park Lane Hotel’. [There are, however, indications online that this was published in some form.] A programme note by PDJ on p.55 reads ‘The play - - - had its genesis when I was lunching with Sir Robin Chichester-Clark and some of his colleagues from Arvon to discuss a fund-raising dinner. Sir Robin suggested that I might write a short detective mystery which guests would be asked to solve, and it occurred to me that it would be even more fun if the mystery were written as a play to be presented towards the end of dinner’. [The Arvon Foundation is a charitable organisation which promotes creative writing and runs residential creative writing courses.]
