Scope and Contents
Written in Perros-Guirec, Brittany (3-19 August) and at Fordfield. Some of the holiday entries relate to the relationship between M and Mme Erlande and to that between M Erlande and Aelfrida. Back at Fordfield Alethea begins to study Dante with Aelfrida. Tom Henn is to be married - Alethea has her doubts about whether he really wants to. Press cuttings about the wedding (attended by Cara) are pasted in together with some confetti. Attends Trinity College garden party for the Francis Bacon tercentenary celebrations - press cutting pasted in. Most of the rest of the volume relates to preparations for Alethea to go up to Girton and her first term there with Miss Butler as her Director of Studies. University acquaintances and visitors include Tom Henn, Ralph Nattrass. W Owston Smith, Pattie Tillyard, Isabella Drummond, Ian Parsons, Jack Whitaker, Olga Libowitz and Helen Megaw. Visits back to Fordfield are fairly regular and visitors to tea there include Kathleen Butler from Girton. Programme for Trinity Hall Law Society Annual Mock Trial 20 Nov 1926 is pasted in. Entries have again become less frequent but are lengthy.
