Statement by S E [Emily] Davies on behalf of the Committee for the Proposed Admission of Girls to University Local Examinations, 1863-01
Scope and Contents
The Committee's aim is to provide a standard to guide teachers and a certificate of proficiency for girls preparing to become teachers or otherwise maintain themselves, for which it believes University Local Examinations are very suitable, without alteration in the regulations. Extension of the examinations to girls would also call attention to the present state of middle class female education. Large numbers of candidates are not expected. Admission of girls to the Society of Arts examinations has been very successful.
