 File
Reference Code: GBR/0271/GCPP Williams 2/4

Scope and Contents

Two bundles of poetry written by Gladys Skelton [later Bendit], as follows:
1) ‘Love in Bloomsbury: A Modern Tale - Prologue’, 38pp manuscript, dated 1909 at the end but this has been crossed out;
2) ‘Spring in a London Office: A June Song in London’, containing loose pages of manuscript and typescript poetry which may or may not relate to the title on the cover. Some of the titles are the same as some of those in GCPP Williams 2/6 and may have been intended for an anthology under this title - they include: Tragedy, Epilogue, To, To My Friends, The Middle Years: To H.C.M., Priapus, Winged Words, Warning, First Love, and Street Music.
The file also contains cuttings, as follows:
Morning Post 15 November 1918 on ‘Recent Poetry’, including a review of John Presland’s ‘Poems of London’;
Nottingham Daily Guardian 3 June [1912?] review of John Presland’s ‘Marcus Aurelius’, a drama in four acts;
Postcard from Jon Wynne-Tyson thanking [John Presland] for proofs, 1960;
Advertising flyer for John Presland’s ‘Satni: A Tragedy’ (a verse drama) [1929?], including some press comments on J P’s poetic works.
