'Notes on English Literature 1630-1750', 1905 - 1948
Scope and Contents
Hardback notebook entitled as above on the cover. The flyleaf is inscribed ‘Gladys Williams, her book October this year of grace 1905 English literature’, though this has been crossed out in heavy pencil. The volume contains lecture notes together with manuscript poems and notes by Gladys Williams [later Skelton, and later Bendit] for various other writings, and occasional doodles and sketches. The volume is paginated:
Pp 1-137: lecture notes on Milton and Dryden and on ‘Poetry (apart from Milton) 1618-1650’;
Pp 140-1: ‘A Middle Aged Woman’ (a prose poem?), no date;
Pp 143-5: poem beginning ‘Pandora, in the fable known of old’, 17 February 1942;
P 147: poem ‘To ‘H.M.’ [Herman Moroney?] – ‘Dear Ghost’ ‘, August 1940;
Pp 149-153: poem entitled ‘Victory’, August 1944;
P 155: poem entitled ‘The Stoic’, 5 July 1945;
P 157: poem entitled ‘Atomic Bomb’, 14 August 1945;
P 161: ‘The Story of a Suicide’, being a short story, or possibly notes for a short story [late 1940s?];
P 163: ‘Full Circle’, being notes for a short story concerning Russian refugees [late 1940s?];

P 252: poem beginning ‘There’s a pillow of heather beneath my head’.
The volume also contains loose items, as follows:
