Note: the two reviews by Idwal Rowlands are more or less identical. However, the online version [printed 2014] reads ‘Many SSF members will know how bright and cheerful she was…’ while the Girton Review version reads ‘Many Society of St Francis members will know how bright and cheerful she was…’ It has been suggested that SSF might stand for Society for the Study of Fertility rather than Society of St Francis.
