Scope and Contents

Introduction to Sarah Mason's diaries, compiled by Tom Lester, giving biographical detail on Sarah Mason and her family history background, together with some analysis of the content of the diaries. The file also contains the following: an abstract of the diaries compiled by Hilary Goy (this is more detailed in parts than the catalogue entries at GCPP Tebbutt 2/2-6 below); a full transcript of references in the diaries to Girton's Anglo-Saxon excavations, March - April 1881; notes re Eliza Minturn, relating to an outbreak of smallpox at Girton in 1878 and to a subsequent court case between Eliza Minturn and the owners of her lodgings, a Mr and Mrs Farren; and notes re the Cambridge Little-Go, or Previous, examination.
