Scope and Contents
Two albums and several loose photographs, taken during the work of the Royal Commission on Labour in India. B/w and sepia, mostly undated, but presumably most of them date from 1929-31.
Album 1 includes: list of Commissioners at front; group photographs of members of the Commission; individual members including J H Whitley (Chairman), N M Joshi, John Cliff, Sir Victor Sassoon, Beryl Power, Sir Alexander Murray; Madras; Lucknow; Bhopal; Assam; Shillong; Bombay; Old Viceregal Lodge Old Delhi; Sindh; Indian labourers including miners, railway workers, Burmah Corporation workers; Ajunta Caves, Hyderabad; Burmah; Ahmedabad; Jaipur; Fatehpur Sikri; Assam and Dooars tea gardens; Animalies and Nilgiri tea estates.
Album 2 includes: signatures of Commissioners at front; staff at Old Viceregal Lodge; Madras; Golden Temple, Amritsar; Assam; Jute Works, Calcutta; Old Delhi; A Clow, John Cliff, Victor Sassoon, Beryl Power, N M Joshi; signing the report; BMP's room at the Old Viceregal Lodge, Old Delhi; Agra, including The Fort; Taj Mahal; Fatehpur Sikri; Jaipur - Parana Ghat, Maharajah's elephant, The Palace; The Palace, Amber; Udaipur; Bombay from Malabar Hill.
