‘Are women electrified by your institution?’, 1983 - 1991
Scope and Contents
Draft and final versions of a lecture on the role and numbers of women in engineering, which was delivered by Beryl Platt on several occasions for the IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers), including 6 April 1989 as the 6th Lord Nelson of Stafford Lecture. Together with the following: related papers and correspondence; flyers; three black and white photographs taken at the Lord Nelson of Stafford Lecture; offprint of IEE Proceedings March 1990 containing printed version of the lecture; B P, ‘Electrifying Women: a Solution to the Skills Shortage’, in the IEE Review October 1989; and a news release issued by the IEE on 2 November 1983 entitled ‘IEE Publishes Survey on Women Engineers’ (concerning the responses from 75% of the IEE’s 700 female members to a questionnaire seeking to identify some of the problems experienced by women studying for and working in the engineering profession).
