Includes: 12 January 1886, addressed c/o George Howard, Naworth Castle, Brampton, Cumberland, enclosing EB to Mary, 9 January; 4 May 1886, addressed to Aldeburgh; 8 November 1886, addressed to Cobham; [?1887], from Birkenhead, concerning Maurice’s broken engagement, also ‘tell dear Rosie how very happy I am in the plan’; March 1887, again concerning Maurice; 15 March 1887, from Birkenhead ‘Poor Mrs Minet! - - It will be a great loss to the Coop Guild’ ‘How kind of Mrs Gleadowe - - to help you’.
Letters of 21 and 31 March, 5, 11, 13 and 20 April 1887, and part of a letter of April [1887] are addressed to Florence and Rome, Italy, where Margaret was travelling with Emily [?Booth]; The letters of 31 March and 13 April were found unopened. 5 April was written by Crompton Llewelyn Davies. 11 April was sent from Balliol College, Oxford, where Mary was staying with Maurice, who was ill. 20 April reads ‘There is great desire for yr. reappearance here & at the Harrow League’.
19 May, from Margate; 17 August 1887, from Arran to Skye; 2, 4, 22 and 23 September 1887 to Arran - 22 September reads ‘It is pleasant to hear of you having such good times - - & to know that Gwynneth sees all our beloved places at their best’.
