The sequence of letters written while Margaret was at Girton begins here. File includes: 27 April 1881 - 'the beginning of our new correspondence' - describes, after leaving Margaret at Girton, visiting Charley at Trinity College and calling at the Lodge and talking to Dr and Mrs Thompson; 27 April 1881 from ‘C’ to Mary Llewelyn Davies from Tunbridge Wells wondering whether Mary is going to Girton with Margaret; 29 April 1881 - 'It sounded very pleasant all your visitors. It was kind of S[ophia?] Fletcher to call - - - the very first evening' - 'I wonder if Charley has been over - - - '; 30 April 1881 CC to Margaret; 2 May [1881] - 'Aunt E. D. will bring this - - - She spoke very kindly about you & she promised to make out what would be the best for you about seeing Charley' in his rooms, also says 'I was interested in - - the prayer meeting, & can quite understand your feeling touched by it. Whether it would be a good thing to join it daily I do not feel sure' - 'I should fear a want of reticence and a too emotional turn when a number of girls together pray in that way'; 9 May 1881 'How are your clothes? Have you any mending - - ?'; 12 May 1881; 14 May 1881 mentions things forwarded to Girton including a tennis racquet, and discusses whether Margaret should have the small pox vaccinations - ‘Aunt ED - - reported very pleasantly of you’, also encloses a letter to ‘Dearest Father’ from Harry from Haileybury College 12 May 1880; 19 May 1881 ‘I wonder if you have had the fire alarm yet’; two undated letters but presumed to date from around this period; 23 May 1881 ‘Granny was especially full of you seeing the boat procession wh. she remembers so well’; 2 June 1881 - Granny says ‘Oh how I do long for Margt. to come back - - ‘; 3[?] June 1881 mentions Richter concert and encloses a letter from CC; 6 June 1881 - ’I am thinking of you today in your examn. - - do not be too much discouraged if you do badly - - ' and ‘We are glad yr. concert went off well - - I wonder what you wore!’.
