Includes: circa 1864 'From Mama to Margaret' during a trip to Chorley; circa 1869 enquiring 'How does Latin get on & all other lessons'; 6 December 1871 from the Lodge, Marlborough College, where one of Margaret's brothers is taking entrance examinations [part of letter missing]; 3 letters addressed to Chorley [1870, dated from reference to the death of Charles Dickens] - 'I wish so I could pop over to Chorley and peep at you all in your little beds- - - ' - mentions 'purchases for our school at Chorley - - - '; and circa 1870 from Eardiston House [nr Tenbury Wells, Shropshire?]; 1874 May, 3 letters from Ramsgate; 5 March [1874] from Girton College, visiting Emily Davies - 'we are safe & well in this female seat of learning. Shall you ever come here I wonder! & inhabit one of these delightful little sets of rooms' - 'we sat at a table with the Mistress (aunt E. D.) the Classical tutor (Miss Lumsden) & two of the senior students' - also mentions Fanny [J Frances] Dove; [circa 1875] from Brighton, 'It was unlucky you got the Cross for forgetting your sums &c, but I was very glad your lessons did well, & that the holiday work in Latin is likely to be helpful'; Tuesday from Belvedere Mansion, Brighton [circa 1875?] - 'I am so glad to think of you staying with yr. kind relations' [Aunt C and Uncle G]; 6 October [circa 1875?] from Chorley - 'how is the Q[ueen's] C[ollege] School?', also news of people in Chorley; 4 further letters dated 1875 (9 April, 13 May, 12 October and 9 December); 15 May 1876; 29 September 1876 addressed to Liverpool - 'We are all looking forward to your return, & the servants are quite delighted to have the lively one back!'.
