Scope and Contents
Tributes to Harold Temperley [Cambridge University Professor of Modern History from 1931], including: G P Gooch, 'Harold Temperley 1879-1939', from Proceedings of the British Academy Vol. XXV [1940?] and service sheet for memorial service for H T held at the Church of St Mary the Less, Cambridge, 14 July 1939. The file also contains correspondence concerning a proposed biography of H T, including:
1) copies of letters from John D Fair to Neville Temperley [son of H T], 1980-82;
2) letters from N T to Jean Lindsay, 1981-2, asking her to set 'down on paper something about the 1930-8 Conference period' (also copies of J L's ms drafts of articles on and tributes to H T, nd);
3) J D F to J L, 28 May 1982, concerning the possibility of meeting up to discuss H T for the purposes of the biography;
4) J D F to J L, 6 February 1990, thanking her for her suggested corrections [John D Fair, 'Harold Temperley: A Scholar & Romantic in the Public Realm', was published by Delaware in 1992].
