Easter Term 1905, 1905-05 - 1905-06
Scope and Contents
DH prepares for her Economics Tripos, for which she fears she is ill-prepared, but also plays tennis (hoping to get into the College team against Newnham) and, with her friends, plans theatrical entertainment after exams. Her father designs a vignette for the programme, and there is discussion of the permitted male costumes, which she and her friends devise. She organises a lecture on ‘sweated industries’ and attends a debate on vegetarianism. A second summer party for the gyps is arranged, and much appreciated; DH hopes this will become a regular College tradition. After exams, Miss McArthur takes all her students on the river to Grantchester, with tea in the orchard. DH plans a visit to Dublin in July, with others, when Miss McArthur will receive a D.Litt. Meanwhile, she looks forward to helping her mother with political work, and there is a mention of Miss Clover using Lady Howard’s name on the appeal literature.
