Scope and Contents
Drawings and sketches by Joan Garrod:
1) Drawings of cricketers which were published in Varsity 14 May 1949, including P J Hall, H J Bartlett, H G Doggett and J H Dewes;
2) and 3) Two sketches of Dr Eric Blackall of Gonville and Caius College (scholar and critic of German and Austrian literature), one of them depicting him 'taking a supervision in the History of the German Language', February 1950; also 3a) Obituaries for Dr Blackall 1989;
4) ‘Observed in Cambridge circa 1950’ - drawing showing a student on a bicycle wearing a gown, signalling a right turn into Mill Lane by putting his right foot out;
5) One sheet showing three sketches of Mr Leonard W Forster, one of which depicts him teaching a group of students; another is entitled 'Dean of Selwyn College, taking a supervision in sixteenth century German literature', February and March 1950;
6) One sheet entitled 'Drawings Girton 1950': shows Janet Aynsley and Peggy Banbridge in Joan Garrod’s room in the Grange, first floor, March; Mme O[dette] de Mourgues taking a supervision in 16thC French literature, February; and M de Glehn;
7) Drawings by Joan Garrod for headings on the sports pages of the Cambridge Review January 1951.
