Typescript of parts of proposed book. No date found - circa 1973? File contains:
1) 2pp resume of introduction and chapters 1-6;
2) Unfinished draft introduction, ‘Obstinate Isles’, 4pp;
3) Draft introduction, ‘Obstinate Isles: Introduction’, 2pp. (plus a sentence on p. 3 (p. 1 of ‘Chapter one’)).
4) Draft chapter four, ‘The Nineties tried your game’, 35pp. There is also a loose-leaf, handwritten page at the end of this chapter reading: 'Chap One. Can use the example as basis but must widen and tighten the argument. Define fictionalising, unreality, unrealism etc and say in what sense S’s poetry is not ‘reflections on life’. Since it is not contradictory to say that the formal resources of language are used together with thoughts on life';
5) Typescript of ‘Chapter Two: Expansion in Verse’, 52pp. Light annotations throughout.
6) Unfinished typescript of ‘Chapter Three: Lilies from the acorn’, 17pp. Light annotations throughout.
