Veronica Forrest-Thomson's personal library, 1937 - 1974

 Series
Reference Code: GBR/0271/GCPP Forrest-Thomson 1/5a

Scope and Contents

The items listed here were part of Veronica Forrest-Thomson’s personal library. They were originally donated to the Department of English library of the University of Birmingham by her parents, who visited Birmingham soon after her death. The books were removed from that library just before its formal closure in 2007 and were then donated to Girton College in 2015.
Most of the books contain a University of Birmingham Department of English memorial bookplate reading ‘Ex libris Veronica Forrest-Thomson Lecturer in this Department 1974-75’.
The list is arranged alphabetically by author and includes the item numbers which were found on each book (with the exception of the copy of V F-T’s ‘twelve academic questions’). The numbers may relate to the place of the books on the library shelves in Birmingham. Many of the books also bear V F-T’s personal inscription and annotations in her hand. The list gives an indication of those volumes which contain extensive annotations.
