Scope and Contents

Three self-portraits (ink sketches) [B505/1-3]:
1) 'Barbara Leigh Smith absorbed',
2) 'Barbara Leigh Smith in ye Breeze' and
3) 'Barbara Leigh Smith in the pursuit of Art unconscious of small humanity';
4) ink sketch, 'Ye Newe Generation' depicting four young women with umbrella/ spear/ pallet/ brushes brandished against unfinished sketch of a bull (?), and a fifth woman with her back turned, hiding her face in her hands [B505/4];
5) pencil sketch of a face in profile [self portrait], with photograph [B505/5a-b];
6) letter from N Chapman to W Cunningham, 11 December 1912, asking whether Girton College would be interested in purchasing some pen and ink sketches by Barbara Bodichon [B504a];
7) letter from Dorothy Howard to W Cunningham, 15 December 1912 - has been to see the sketches; they are very interesting, and it would be very generous of Mr Cunningham to acquire them for the College, but both she and Miss Chapman are uncertain as to what would be a reasonable price [B504b].
