I have received some notes written by you and Lady Stanley from Miss [Fanny] Metcalfe, which seem to imply that Lady Stanley was empowered to appoint members of the sub committee; as you know this is not the case. It puts a Secretary into a very awkward position when members of a Committee take matters into their own hands and without regard to the decisions of the Committee. No hesitation in putting Miss Metcalf on the sub committee if she is well enough to attend, and I shall propose her name at the next meeting of the Executive Committee.
