Letter from Emily Davies to Barbara Bodichon, 1867-01-29
Scope and Contents
Are you still full of the earthquake? Am full of the College. Have been staying with The Brodies at Oxford. Saw Mr Mark Pattison. He grieves that we look to Cambridge, not Oxford. Lady B. says they are not yet ready for it. Lady and Sir Benjamin [Brodie] both very interested. Next step a committee, large with small executive. Roby thinks Lord Lyttelton would accept chair (High Church); Lady Goldsmid as Treasurer. Money - we ought to raise £30,000 at least. 3 medical students - Misses Goff, Mong & Phillips - passed 1st exam. Miss Goff married today a London hospital doctor. Franchise affairs going fairly well. Uncertain what may happen in Parliament. Miss Cook in London - talk about College.
